Hype Hair: Gilded Glory

“Hype Hair: Gilded Glory" is a visual love letter to the legacy of Black womanhood, where beauty is both ritual and resistance. This collection reimagines the pages of 90s and early 2000s Black hair magazines, beauty supply memories, and the unspoken pride woven into gold earrings, high-arched brows, pressed hair, and perfectly laid edges. Each portrait in this memoir captures the tenderness and power of Black women reclaiming space, defining their own standards of beauty, and shining unapologetically. This body of work is a collection of oil paintings, illustrations and collage works.
